Welcome! This tutorial is intended for linguists who would like to run online experiments and are struggling with it. I will only cover acceptability judgment tasks, i.e. questionnaires in which partipants are asked to rate sentences using a 5- or 7-point Likert scale.

Online experiments are an easy and powerful tool to collect a large amount of data easily. We will be using IbexFarm, a website which provides free hosting for ibex experiments. We can run different types of online experiments using IbexFarm, but we will stick to acceptability judgment tasks. In the Setting up the experiment tab, you will learn about the files you need to get your experiment running.

A major concern among linguists using IbexFarm for the first time is reading the results file. The results file contains many information and can be overwhelming. However, we can tidy it up in less than a minute with R. In the Cleaning the data tab, you will learn what the necessary steps are to clean your results file in order to analyze your data.
